Derek McCann
Derek has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, with a family history in the business going back over 75 years, in Scotland, where his father owned several hotels, which is where Derek found his passion for the hospitality business. Derek graduated from Cornell University with a BSc in Hotel Administration, upon graduation joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Derek worked throughout college and did many hourly positions including dishwasher, bellstand, concierge, front desk agent to working as a culinary teaching assistant during college. Since then, Derek has run some iconic properties including Vice-President of Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, with 2,884 rooms and 640,000 square feet of meeting space and opening General Manager of Sir Richard Branson’s, Virgin Hotels Nashville.
Derek serves on several boards including VIsitKC, Hotel & Lodging Association, Downtown Council Executive Board and the Downtown Community Improvement District Board of Directors.
